01 HOUSEPLANT
A series of concept driven vinyl compilations

Music Supervision
Manufacturing Consultant
As the music supervisor for a series of vinyl compilations by Houseplant, the cannabis lifestyle company co-founded by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, I dove headfirst into the world of rare groove to help define the brand's sonic identity. Working closely with the founders and product development team, we embarked on a musical journey to curate the perfect playlists for LP Box Set Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 of their strain-specific compilations, as well as the one-off Houseparty Double LP project. Our goal? To blend classic tracks with undiscovered gems that would resonate with cannabis enthusiasts and vinyl collectors alike.

My role extended far beyond just picking great tunes. I managed the entire production process, from initial concept discussions to the final product landing in customers' hands. This involved creating detailed project timelines, designing custom spreadsheets to track our progress, and leading review sessions to ensure every selected track hit the mark. I also worked hand-in-hand with designers on the artwork, scrutinizing proofs of both the print elements and the vinyl discs themselves to guarantee a top-quality product.

Perhaps the most exciting challenge was navigating the complex world of music licensing. I found myself in regular contact with an eclectic mix of record labels across the US, EU, and UK - from indie darlings like Daptone, Now-Again and Stones Throw to larger players like Concord and Beggar's Group. Negotiating rights and securing assets required a delicate balance of persistence, charm, and attention to detail. Throughout it all, I kept a watchful eye on our budget, ensuring that our creative vision aligned with financial realities. The result? A series of vinyl compilations that perfectly captured the laid-back yet sophisticated vibe of the Houseplant brand.
